50 minutes to the coast but well worth the drive. The Fish House is a restored old glorified fish shack perched between the house of John Fowles [author of The French Lieutenants Woman] and The Cobb. It is worth a visit just for the view alone sitting high above the beach watching the wind whip up the grey sea on an autumn day. Michelin star food brings you fresh oysters barely an hour or two out of the sea accompanied by the classic fish soup infused with the local award winning Somerset cider brandy. Recommend booking in advance.

A 50-minute drive to the coast but well worth it. Loved locally for its killer breakfasts, perfect if you are planning to arrive early and spend the day at the beach. Awarded the best coastal eatery a number of times for its regional West Country ingredients - favourites include Lovingtons ice cream at its summer season parlour and a fantastic choice of locally caught fish and shellfish. Located on the National Trust’s Hive Beach, this alfresco café really is a seaside must-visit. Grab some fish and chips, wrap up in a blanket, and warm your cockles on a beachy winter’s day. Or stop for a leisurely lunch to sample their superb hand-dived Lulworth scallops or crab, washed down with a glass of Portesham wine in the summer!
