50 minutes to the coast but well worth the drive. The Fish House is a restored old glorified fish shack perched between the house of John Fowles [author of The French Lieutenants Woman] and The Cobb. It is worth a visit just for the view alone sitting high above the beach watching the wind whip up the grey sea on an autumn day. Michelin star food brings you fresh oysters barely an hour or two out of the sea accompanied by the classic fish soup infused with the local award winning Somerset cider brandy. Recommend booking in advance.

Great service with lovely friendly staff. The food is amazing. The crab sandwiches with a few chips and side salad is the best we have ever tasted. The fish stew is also lovely. They also do takeaways too, fisherman's ploughman's, fresh crab, prawns and Rachel's homemade smoked mackerel pâté served with a boiled egg salad and crusty bread! Very good value.

Fine food and crafted cider set within an alluring atmosphere. This is where it all began! The first Stable restaurant in deepest Dorset. The story began in 2006 when Richard and Nikki took on the mammoth challenge of transforming a former 16th century beautiful old stable block, which looked so far beyond repair they left it vacant for years. When Richard’s brother Andy returned from his travels they came up with the idea to turn the space into a cider house, serving gourmet Dorset pizzas unlike anything else. In 2009, after a whole lot of hard graft, The Stable was born. It was a huge success and remains incredibly popular amongst locals and holidaymakers....a must!

The term “crab house” is almost too grand for this shack on the water’s edge overlooking Chesil Beach, yet its outdoor eating area is always packed — with families, locals and the odd chef [Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Angela Hartnett]. The menus change up to twice a day depending on what's fresh from the catch - lunch include turbot steak poached in saffron cream, while at dinner the offering may be megrim sole baked with chilli and lime.
